Jodhpur to Udaipur. Dist - 767km

Day 01. ARRIVE JODHPUR

arrive jodhpur by flight and check into a charming family run guest house.visit the magnificent mehrangarh fort,take a walk through the bustling bazaars and markets around the clock tower square..o/n at jodhpur.


Day 02. JODHPUR TO TILWARA. DIST -150KMS

leave jodhpur after breakfast and drive through the country side of marwar (the land of the dead) towards the village of tilwara,famous for its horse ,camel and cattle fair held in march every year.enroute we visit the hamlets of bishnoi tribes and spot desert wildlife.lunch at tilwara and we stay at the camp site called 'dhani' among the sanddunes.dhanis are the cottages of the local tribesmen made of sticks and wildgrass and plastered with mud and cowdung.in the evening we have a campfire on the dunes with cocktails and dinner.o/n at tilwara dhani.


Day 03. TILWARA TO BHADRAJUN. DIST-120KMS

at dawn we finish our breakfast watching the rising sun,we once more look forward to the adventurous journey starting at leisure and crossing the desert and sultry barren lands we find ourselves in an area covered with small thorny bushes spreading as far as the eye can see.we cross the important rural town of siwana with its fort.lunch at bhadrajun.according to the 5000 year old hindu epic 'mahabharata' it is here that pandav prince arjun got married to lord krishna's sister subhadra thus giving the village its name 'bhadrajun'.the majestic palace of bhadrajun dates back to the 16th century and the noble family is of the highest standing in the old kingdom of jodhpur.in the evening we visit the temple and take a tour of the village.o/n at bhadrajun pink castle.


Day 04. BHADRAJUN TO KORTA. DIST-70KMS

after breakfast we once again board our jeeps heading towards korta.this area is canal irrigated so the surroundings get greener as we move on. Crossing a few villages and green fields we reach ravla bhenswara for our lunch.after spending some time there we head on for korta taking shepherd trails and sandy tracks, the terrain is at its best as we spot vulture breeding sites high up on the ledges.korta is a beautiful place with many 15th century temples, lush green fields and sand dunes.it is also unique in being one of the main breeding centres of the marwari breed of horses. Bluebull antelopes are also abundant here.the night is spent in ethnically furnished cottages or in tents pitched on a beautiful organic farm.the family is our wonderful host.o/n korta.


Day 05. KORTA HORSE SAFARI. DIST-18KMS

after breakfast at 9 we mount on the horses and ride into the hills.we cross the shepherd houses and village to visit the 16th century temple of mother goddess durga situated in the aravalli ranges.picnic lunch would be served at the temple site.after lunch we spend some time leisurely exploring the area and again ride back to the farm. (non riders could accompany in the jeeps or camel carts).barbeque and cocktails for dinner .o/n korta.


Day 06 KORTA TO KUMBALGARH. DIST-155KMS

at the crack of dawn as we leave picturesque korta crossing the rough terrain and sandy tracks,we visit the biggest dam in the area called jawai bandh.it is a declared marsh crocodile sanctuary.we drive onto ranakpur to visit the world famous jain temple carved in marble.lunch at ranakpur at the foothills of the aravalli ranges we drive up towards kumbalgarh crossing tribal settlements enroute.at kumbalgarh we check into hotel aodhi and then explore the unconquered fort whose bastions encircle some 36kms..o/n at aodhi.


Day 07. KUMBALGARH TO GHANERAO.DIST -22KMS (FOREST TREK)

after breakfast we move onto the forest tracks of the kumbalgarh wildlife sanctuary home to leopard,sloth bear,desert wolf,antelope,deer and hundreds of other animal and bird species.as we move downhill unhurriedly we can get the chance of spotting some of these magnificient creatures and marvel at the variety of plant and birdlife.we come down from a height of 3000 feet to a breathtaking view of a dam site from a forest lodge with hundreds of migratory birds and crocodiles basking in the sun.we stop here for lunch and a leisurely rest.after wards we board our jeeps once more and drive out of the forest and head towards the old town of ghanerao.as you enter the majestic gate you are stunned by the grandeur of this 17th century castle of ghanerao.we refresh ourselves with tea or coffee enjoying the golden sunset from the rooftop. O/n ghanerao castle.


Day 08. GHANERAO TO FORT AUWA. DIST 70-KMS

starting at leisure leaving behind majestic ghanerao we move towards the northeast and the farmlands of godwar region.we move parallel to the aravalli range crossing some interior villages and lakes,we come across a variety of colourful people who belong to the sirvee and other communities depending on their livestock and small farmlands.by noon we reach the historical fort of auwa after visiting some special places of interest on the way.the nobles of auwa were the head nobles and the prime ministers of the erstwhile kingdom of jodhpur for generations. Also the first noble to rebel against the british during the indian mutiny of 1857. Many battles were fought in auwa during the seige.the evening is spent around the campfire with the auwa noble family enjoying our cocktails and listening to old tales of valour. O/n at auwa.


DAY 09. FORT AUWA TO UDAIPUR. DIST-180KMS (TRAIN RIDE)

after breakfast we visit the 11th century shiva temple and crossing the henna plantations we reach fulad via dirt tracks.from fulad we take a train safari which would take us upto the mewar region through the core area of the forest sanctuary. This is a wonderful experience as the old local train is one of the few surviving narrow gauge tracks laid down by the british a hundred years ago.lunch at deogarh heritage castle.from there we drive down to udaipur where our jeep safari ends.. O/n udaipur at a comfortable hotel.


DAY10 UDAIPUR

udaipur is a fascinating city of lakes and palaces cradled between the aravalli mountains.after visiting some places of interest we can leave for the airport to complete our journey home.
